Trails Guide Mentorship Trails

The Lowveld Trails Co. offers dedicated three-night ‘Primitive Trails’ for aspiring Trails Guides with the minimum required FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) qualifications. The objectives of the Trails Guide mentorship process is to; 1) facilitate the logging of walking hours and potentially dangerous game encounters under an experienced mentor, 2) expose junior Trails Guides to the ethos of multi-day Primitive Trails, and 3) to propagate a holistic Trails Guide culture across all guiding sectors. These valuable hours and encounters can be signed off towards FGASA Trails Guide qualifications. Trails are limited to six participants (of which max. two can log towards Lead Trails Guide if eligible) and cost ZAR 4100 per person. Trails Guide Workshops (14 & 28 Days).

The Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) accredited Trails Guide Workshops are conducted in the Greater Kruger National Park over a period of 14 or 28 days. The objective is to engage in intensive activity and discussion on approaching dangerous game on foot. Log walking hours & dangerous game encounter towards your FGASA Trails Guide qualifications (Lead or Back-Up) under experienced mentors and assessors. Strong emphasis is placed on the ethos surrounding trails guiding, the necessary bush skills required for multi-day trails and holistic environmental interpretation.

The workshops will be facilitated by Brenden Pienaar, Bruce Lawson, Lutz Otto and Wayne Te Brake. This is an unmatched opportunity for Trails Guide candidates to be intensively mentored by four experienced and active FGASA Trails Guides and assessors with no less than 40 000 walking hours between them.

2019 Scheduled Dates:

The 2020 Trails Guide Workshop Brochure and scheduled dates will be out soon.

“This is the true definition of Trails Guide mentorship. Brenden and Wayne are masters of the craft and share their knowledge freely, helping you to fine-tune your abilities. It was truly a magical four days and I will definitely be back and recommend it to all the guides I know.” – Craig Sanders
