Lowveld Trails Co. offers dedicated three-night ‘Primitive Trails’ for aspiring Trails Guides with the minimum required Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) qualifications. The objectives of the Trails Guide mentorship process is to, 1) facilitate the logging of walking hours and potentially dangerous game encounters under an experienced mentor, 2) expose junior Trails Guides to the ethos of multi-day Primitive Trails, and 3) to propagate a holistic Trails Guide culture across all guiding sectors. These valuable hours and encounters can be signed off towards FGASA Trails Guide qualifications.
Trails are limited to eight participants, with 3 designated rifle-carrying spots allowing these participants to log towards lead Trails Guide (if eligible), and 5 ‘observer’ spots for candidates logging towards Apprentice Trails Guide or guests joining purely for the experience. The 2021 cost structure is as follows:
Rifle-carrying spot | ZAR 4 750 /person/trail
Observer spot | ZAR 4 250 /person/trail
Conservation Levy | ZAR 390 /person/trail

“This is the true definition of Trails Guide mentorship. Brenden and Wayne are masters of the craft and share their knowledge freely, helping you to fine-tune your abilities. It was truly a magical four days and I will definitely be back and recommend it to all the guides I know.” – Craig Sanders.
